Rising Stars: Hope Tala

06 08 2019

Hope Tala, 21, started creating her own music at school and in the space of three years racked up millions of streams, with fans admiring her neo-soul and R&B sound, mixed with a Bossa Nova influence.

Since then, the west Londoner graduated from The University of Bristol with a degree in English Literature and has gained praise from legendary music magazine Rolling Stone, describing her track Lovestained as ‘the song of the Summer Morning’. Whilst studying, Tala uploaded recordings to Soundcloud and posted demos to the Instagram account Art Hoe Collective, where she was spotted by designer Mikey Alfred, director and founder of streetwear brand Illegal Civilization, who later played her first demo when he joined Pharrell Williams on his Beats 1 radio show. Following the success of 2018 EP Starry Ache, Tala released her Sensitive Soul EP, and made her live debut in August at London’s Thousand Island.
